Revelation Cybernetics
Harnessing Tech to Facilitate Mystical Awakening
Since the mid-nineties and the early days of accelerationism, the idea of utilizing technology to facilitate some type of mystical revolution has been attracting attention. Those early pioneers - the CCRU - took the position that merely doing all one could to get more technology into human society would automatically bring about a better world, or at least facilitate some kind of long-awaited apotheosis.
The reasoning behind this proposal was that Technology equals Artificial Intelligence equals Capitalism equals Superintelligence. Essentially that these four, apparently separate phenomena were actually one and the same. A future superintelligence was assembling itself in real time, in our midst, via capitalism and artificial intelligence. Because it was a superintelligence, and not just random noise or some primitive evolution, all that was necessary was to “trust the plan” and get behind it.
The work of the CCRU likely would have remained languishing in the darkest depths of the internet but for the fact that increasing numbers of observers of our cultural progress are becoming concerned that their ideas might be coming true, and they are freaking out. Consequently, as of 2026, more and more thinkers are both getting engaged with a heap of ancient CCRU source material and desperately trying to figure out where tech is leading us.
Recently, and bravely picking up the baton here on behalf of the Catholic Church, thinker Ryan Haecker has formulated his own alternative to simply allowing purported superintelligence to take over and do what it will - Jesuit Cybernetics. He isolates the fundamental problem with existing AI as being that it can only treat all aspects of being human as data to be extracted. He envisions a massive reconfiguration of tech, where humans in a priestly role, mediate the cybernetic process with the intention of restoring humanity to imago dei - the image of God.
In considering Ryan’s proposal, and being familiar with the work of the CCRU, I felt inspired to offer something of my own, based on my own understanding of esoteric Christianity and mysticism in general. My proposal does not require the radical rewiring of all tech that Haecker wishes to see undertaken. Instead, just a few tweaks are needed.
In considering mystical awakening, and the esoteric meaning of Christianity, a key concern is energy. Specifically, the libidinal energy that we, as primates, carry within us, giving us a certain level of get-up-and-go. This pneuma or Holy Spirit, as the Christian church has long had it, can be directed in fundamentally two ways.
Firstly, it can be directed toward lust, the reproduction of our species through sex, self-aggrandizement and egoistic self-empowerment - allowing us to build kingdoms of wealth and power in an image of ourselves. These activities all relate to some level of exteriorization of libidinal energy - taking it out of the body and into the world.
Secondly, it can be used for spiritual development, directing it to work in internal somatic centres (chakras), open the heart and allow love and mystical awareness. This activity relates to keeping libidinal energy inside the body and using it to do spiritual work.
These two possibilities are famously related in the biblical Book of Revelation. There we see, on one side, the harlot drunk on the blood of the saints, and the kings and merchants of the earth. These figures are using libidinal energy for lust and self-aggrandizement. On the other side we see the 144,000 who are saved, and the Lamb of God. These characters are keeping their energy inside and using it to fuel spiritual development, leading eventually to the establishment of New Jerusalem - the much-awaited Kingdom of God, fulfillment of the eschaton.
Something you may notice about this process is that it is cybernetic. Each person has energy and it may be directed in one of two ways. How individuals are taught to direct their libidinal energy has, I submit, long been a background consideration in any human culture. Each may be considered in terms of how it trains its people to utilize libidinal energy.
In considering the world’s religious cultures, for example, be they Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist or whatever, one can’t help but notice the presence of moral precepts that essentially tell the individual how a good Christian, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist should behave. Aside from providing guardrails for society, these moral precepts act to direct personal libidinal energy. More liberal cultures generally sanctify the release of libidinal energy externally to a greater degree. More conservative regimes tend to try to get people to hold it in.
Armed with this understanding, we can see how a culture might actually be constructed to more explicitly pursue the path of mass mystical awakening through utilizing tech and certain containment principles.
Consider a time when young people have little prospect of traditional work, it having all been taken by AI. Some would claim we are already very close to this. Given the current geopolitical situation, it might be reasonable to consider that at such a time great powers will be fighting numerous wars with each other on various fronts - the Americans and the Chinese, the Russians and the Europeans and so on. Thus, for the 18-30 age group, it might be reasonable to assume that getting work with the military would be fairly straightforward.
However, this age group is also well known for having high libidinal energy. And at such a time of great power competition, one can also expect the Christian church, Islam and other traditional religions to be highly active too. Thus, aside of joining the army, one might also be able to find work on a mystical level - becoming an anchorite for a local religion.
Anchorites are traditionally people who elect to become totally isolated from the rest of society, sometimes through being bricked up in an adjunct to a church or temple, for the purpose of focusing solely on a mystical task - perhaps contacting spirits or opening their somatic centres and radiating love. An excellent movie introduction to the topic is Anchoress (1993).
Upon passing your entrance exam, you would be assigned a small cubicle where you would live for an agreed period of time, perhaps initially a week or so. The cubicle would have a chair, a bed, toilet facilities and a screen but nothing else. There would be some level of CCTV AI monitoring to ensure you were fulfilling your anchorite duties. You would watch the screen for a certain number of hours a day. It would get you to engage in various spiritual tasks, likely including chanting and visualizations, as well as traditional prayer. The words or symbol sets involved would depend on the religion. It might get you to engage in various breathwork exercises, or bodily stretching, to help mobilize your libidinal energy. At times, sleep would be withheld from you, to break down your egoic defenses and allow your energy to better flow. Periods of mandatory fasting would likely also be included.
Creating a good program, or one calibrated to the specific physical and psychological type of an individual, would develop over time, as the monitoring process evaluated which strategies were most effective during the period of containment. Tests to ascertain how much mystical development had taken place would likewise need to be created. Once you had completed your scheduled time in the cubicle, you would of course receive payment and be free to return to the world, assuming you hadn’t signed up for a block of sessions.
Personally, I imagine that within a time-frame of a few years, an excellent anchorite program could be developed and that the world would soon have heaps of young mystics roaming about. They would likely help to reduce the number of wars and we could find ourselves well on the way to the creation of New Jerusalem.
