As the Ukraine war drags tragically on, it is becoming increasingly clear that President Zelensky, along with many Ukrainian citizens, is beginning to grasp the deeper truth to the situation.
The military and financial aid that Western governments have granted to Ukraine has not been given to support the Ukrainians themselves. It has been given to enable them to fight Russia. Western governments very evidently couldn’t care less what happens to the Ukrainian people. They just want to get into Russia. They want to oppose Russian expansionism. Ideally, they want to break Russia up into smaller pieces. It is these, geopolitical ambitions that are the primary driver in the conflict.
To be fair, as far back as April 2022, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin stated publicly that the US aim was “to see Russia weakened.”
Nevertheless, to me, this still begs the question, “But what about the people?”
And whilst Ukraine is to me currently the most obvious and extreme instance of governments no longer caring about people, it is by no means the only one. All across the West - in the UK, the US and the EU - it is increasingly obvious that, actually, our governments couldn’t care less what happens to us, the people.
In the wake of the pandemic, many Western citizens are struggling both to find work and to find the motivation to get up each day and do it. Furthermore, it’s clear as day that we are never going to sign up to actually fight the Russians ourselves. So what use are we to those who run our governments?
It seems that our primary function now is to simply internalise, believe in and repeat the geopolitically-orientated mantras and memes that the mainstream media is constantly pumping out. We are asked to become obsessed with LGBTQ and furthering its causes. Not, of course, because Western governments could care less about LGBTQ rights. Our governments no more care about what happens to gay, bi or trans people than they do the rest of us. The sole purpose is to continue to develop a cultural geo-strategic lever to push into the Middle East and Asia. And to try and inspire the young in those regions to rise up and “regime change” those governments non-cooperative with the West.
I regularly call up friends in the UK, just to keep strong the connections that I have with people there. I treasure my friendships. Whilst chatting, I also hear time and again how deeply the social fabric of the UK is becoming torn apart. NHS waiting queues around the block and services collapsing. Zombie-like old people wandering supermarket aisles. Basic commodity price increases. Homelessness and street violence up. I hear similar tales from American and EU buddies.
It seems to me clear that, more than ever, Western citizens need governments willing and able to tackle the glaring social issues that increasingly beset their own citizens and societies. Yet all they appear interested in doing is to continue to fight geopolitical battles on the world stage. The plight of their own citizens? They don’t give a damn.
The West seems to have somehow come full circle back to where France was in the 1780s. And our leaders seem to have adopted the mantra “Let them eat Trans” in the face of glaring social issues. You don’t need to worry about whether you’ll have a job next month, or whether you can feed your kids this weekend. Just suck up and repeat our ideological messages. You can live off that.
I recently came across the following, which is an 'interview' with someone who claims to be one of the ancient ruling bloodlines. I have no real idea of the authenticity of this or whether it bears any relationship to reality, but (from what I have read so far) it certainly paints a picture that puts what I see in a perspective that potentially makes reasonably consistent sense of it.
It is also in line with a number of snippets of things I have happened across in the past.

Why post here about it? Because it gives some framework to your conclusions about governments and caring. Governments (and corporations, militaries, non-governmental organisations etc) are, of course, just collections of people acting to some degree together on the basis of some set of beliefs. Each person is, as we know, subject to the pushes and pulls of integrity and selfishness (through fear, greed etc), and, through the latter (along with ignorance), is more or less manipulable.
I have seen countless examples in the last 4 years in particular where there is huge inconsistency between officials' words and actions or data. The example you give about the Ukrainian people is a glaring one (yet many seem unable or unwilling to see this - arguably because, in at least some cases, to do so would collapse too much of their construct of the world for them to withstand and which they will go to all sorts of lengths to protect).
I am sure that there are many people in governments etc who went in with the genuine intention of 'doing good'. Many may still think that they are fulfilling that intent, but whether they are or not, the point seems to be that, whilst they are still prone to being ruled by fear, rather than knowing what they stand for, they can - knowingly or unwittingly - become the pawns of powerful people who do have agendas which are callous and harmful to many.
What is the answer? Ultimately, I think it's individuals becoming more conscious and emotionally/psychologically whole, being willing to see uncomfortable truths and refuse/be unable to be a contributor to the harm any more. (In terms of Daniel Kahnemann's 'System 1 and System 2 thinking' in "Thinking Fast and Slow", being rigorous in one's System 1 thinking without either losing sight of System 1 or having it take over).
I was reminded recently how, during the popular uprising in Romania, the police/military initially shot into the crowds of people protesting, but then started to come to their senses (literally) and then no longer be able to follow their orders.
So much more that could be said...and time to stop for now!
