Dev's Newsletter - April 2024
It's April. Spring is happening. I decided last-minute to do the fasting part of Ramadan and am just starting on the final week. So up at 4am and no food and water until 7.30pm. Having done heaps of this kind of thing back in the day, it's not been so hard barring the first couple of days and what I like is that it puts me into a slightly altered state for the day, giving me insights. I'm already feeling a bit concerned about it coming to an end in a week's time. Like I need the structure or know that I will not bother.
I started it back in Istanbul, where I live, but have now come south to Cairo to check the city out for a few days. In Istanbul, people seem more ambivalent about Ramadan. Lots do it, lots don't. But in Al-Manial, Old Town, Cairo, I've yet to see anyone eating or drinking during daylight hours. Everyone's in. It gives it a real energy. It's also 32 degrees here which may well add an edge to the no liquid part. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of Islam, I think this aspect is so cool. People have to not smoke all day and not snack. So many of today's bad habits can be overcome and one can have the "I can do it" feeling. I think it's really great.
I'm back in the UK at the end of April and will have a London Bioenergetics Day on Sun May 5th in the usual venue. Then I'm back in June for a 3-Day Body-based Therapy residential at Osho Leela in Dorset. It feels good to be still offering in-person work.
I'm busy writing the second part of my novel series, Lemurian Pushback. Check it out if you like to give your mind a wild ride, a form of therapy in itself. I'm also determined to complete my book on the esoteric Cube of Space and am planning out the content.
I'm excited that the summer is coming, though I miss the British Spring with its more gentle transition in temperature. Istanbul went from average 12 degrees daytime to average 22 degrees overnight.
I hope that you are doing well wherever you are.
With love and best wishes
