Living in the age of apps and programs, often putting new stuff on my phone, an idea came to me the other day…
Bioenergetics is a program that we run in our body.
I love this idea. Doing a Bioenergetic, or Reichian, workout we run a program in our body. And this program heals and strengthens us psychologically. If we run the program, if we do our daily workout, over time our life gets better. We don’t have to think about it so much. We just need to the do the workout and stay present with the sense of the body as we do it.
Traditional psychotherapy requires, in a sense, more from us. We need to introspect on our childhoods, talk about our earliest relationships with care-givers and other kids. We need to tie how our childhood was, and how it forged the adult version of ourselves, with how our life is today.
I think this is great. In fact, if someone can’t talk in some depth about their life growing up, then I feel like something is missing. But, at the same time, the deepest healing comes from expanding the degree to which we can feel our body.
As we can feel more, so all that is blocked within us becomes conscious and integrated. We develop more and more depth. We feel grounded and we feel open. We feel like we can be more and more human. And, at the same time, we begin to experience the depth of meditation within us, that connects us to the source.
But, of course, you do have to run the program. You do have to do the daily or weekly workout. If you don’t run the program, you don’t get the shift. It’s pretty straightforward!
