Wilhelm Reich’s “Oral” character type arises when we don’t get the expected level of physical or emotional connection with our mother in the first year of our life.
When this happens, a part of our personality begins to obsess on connection. And we have this constant but vague sense of an inner hole inside. We look for something to fill it - snacks, shopping, cigarettes, always keeping busy, alcohol or drugs. The sense of an inner hole goes away for a little while, but soon comes back.
We feel needy. But as teenagers we soon learn that neediness is not an attractive trait. So we learn to cover it over and act cool. But the hole is still there inside, trying to drag us in.
Energetically, this hole is associated with our belly centre - the fiery core of our primate nature. Our belly centre is layered, just like an onion. Stuck energy and repressed emotions are held in these layers.
There are breathwork techniques that allow us to move into our belly centre and begin to clear out these layers of stuck energy, reducing our neediness and sense of an inner hole.
I have created a free workout, using two belly-breathing techniques, that is specifically calibrated to work with our Oral side.
This is the most direct path to permanently overcoming our “Oral” side. But it is not for everyone. You have to commit 100% for the 35 minutes that the workout takes. And it can be quite a journey.
This workout is available on my YouTube channel. If you want to go for it, be sure to listen to the 11 minute introduction at the beginning.
Always interesting to hear of people's observations of different "types", which I have found quite useful. Will check out the video....
